Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers before you begin.

Beginning therapy can bring practical questions alongside personal ones. Here is what you can expect from the first call through ongoing care with Vanessa.

Before We Meet

Getting Started

You do not need to have everything organized before you reach out. These first steps are meant to help us decide whether working together feels appropriate and comfortable.

Use the Work With Me form with your contact information and a brief note. It helps to mention your general availability, but nothing formal is required.

This brief phone call covers what you are looking for, Vanessa's approach, availability, format, and fees. It is not a therapy session, and you do not need to tell your whole story. The goal is simply to consider whether scheduling an intake feels right.

The 60-minute intake gives you room to describe what is happening, what matters now, and what you hope could change. Vanessa will ask about relevant history, relationships, strengths, and safety without expecting you to disclose everything at once.

Availability changes, so the website cannot promise an exact start date. Vanessa is currently accepting new clients, and the consultation is the best place to ask about openings. If timing does not fit, you can discuss other ways to find appropriate support.

Practical Details

Fees and Payment

Clear financial information can make starting therapy feel more manageable.

Vanessa goes over fees with you during the free 15-minute consultation, before anything is scheduled. If you are paying privately, you also have the right to a written Good Faith Estimate before your first session.

Ask during your free consultation. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, Vanessa can provide a superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement.

Vanessa can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. It documents the service and payment but does not guarantee reimbursement. Ask your insurer how it handles out-of-network mental health claims.

Accepted payment methods include ACH bank transfer, American Express, Discover, HSA, Mastercard, and Visa. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. A fee applies to late cancellations and missed appointments.

The Work Itself

How Therapy Works Here

Therapy is collaborative rather than formulaic. Vanessa combines clinical structure with open dialog, adjusting the work to your history, relationships, goals, and readiness.

The intake and individual therapy sessions are 60 minutes. Frequency depends on your needs, goals, availability, and the work you are doing. A consistent rhythm can help build trust and make patterns easier to notice.

There is no single timeline for every person, couple, or family. Some seek focused support through a transition; others want longer-term space for grief, trauma, or relationships. Vanessa revisits goals with you so therapy stays purposeful.

Between sessions, you may notice responses to stress, relationship patterns, or practice a skill from CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, attachment-based work, or the Gottman method. Uncertainty is welcome: you can ask direct questions and discuss whether therapy, coaching, or another resource fits best.

Meeting From Where You Are

Telehealth and Texas

Online care can offer consistency and privacy without travel, but it still depends on location, technology, and a setting where you can speak freely.

Online sessions use a secure telehealth platform at the agreed appointment time. You join from your own device using access information from the practice.

Use a phone, tablet, or computer with stable internet, a camera, and a microphone. Choose a private place where you can speak freely; headphones can help. Vanessa may confirm your location and a callback number if the connection drops.

Vanessa is a Texas Marriage & Family Therapist, license #205404, listed through August 2027. For online therapy, you must be physically in Texas during the session.

The practice uses a secure telehealth platform, and sessions are confidential health care. Your surroundings matter too, so reduce interruptions and choose a place where you can speak honestly. Vanessa can discuss questions about technology, records, or communication before you begin.
